Why Ritz

Sri Lanka rewards travellers who slow down. A thousand-year-old stupa catches the last light differently than any photograph can hold; a tea picker's route through Nuwara Eliya says more about the hill country than a guidebook page. We've spent years learning which roads to take at which hour, which family-run kitchens to trust, and which viewpoints are worth the early alarm — so your itinerary reads less like a checklist and more like a well-told story.

Ground-level knowledge

Our route planners live where they plan — from Galle's ramparts to the Knuckles foothills — so recommendations come from familiarity, not a brochure.

A pace you choose

No coach groups, no fixed departures. Every day is built around your energy, your interests and how long you want to linger over breakfast.

Stays with a story

Colonial mansions, tea bungalows, boutique reefside rooms — each property is visited and vetted before it earns a place in an itinerary.

Ancient stupa silhouetted against a pink sunset sky in Anuradhapura

Heritage

Kingdoms that predate the compass

In Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, dagobas the size of cathedrals rise out of quiet paddy country. We time these visits for the hour before sunset, when the stone still holds the day's heat and the crowds have already gone home.

Wildlife

Encounters on the island's terms

From the elephant gatherings of Minneriya to the leopard trails of Yala, our guides read the bush the way a sailor reads weather. We keep groups small and vehicles few, so the animals set the pace, not the traffic.

Colonial-era building on a street corner in Kandy

Hill Capital

Kandy, when the lake goes quiet

Beyond the Temple of the Sacred Tooth, Kandy's colonial-era streets slow right down once the tour buses pull out — an evening walk around Kandy Lake, a Kandyan dance and drumming performance, tuk-tuks idling under old trading houses. We build in time here for after the crowds thin out, not just the morning rush.

Faith & Heritage

Bells still ring along the west coast

Portuguese and Dutch missionaries left the coast around Negombo scattered with Catholic churches, some over a century old, still lit up and in daily use behind fishing communities. We schedule this stretch for early evening, when the facades are floodlit and the Angelus bells carry over the lagoon.

Aerial view of a turquoise bay lined with palm trees and fishing boats on Sri Lanka's south coast

Coast

A shoreline for every mood

Surf breaks in Arugam Bay, reef snorkelling around Pigeon Island off Nilaveli, quiet palm-lined bays in the deep south. We match the coastline to what the rest of your trip has been — wind-down or wind-up, your call.

Large seated Buddha statue overlooking the coast

Stillness

Room to just look at the sea

Not every hour needs a plan. We leave deliberate gaps in each itinerary — a cliffside statue at golden hour, an empty stretch of coast — because the best travel memories are rarely the scheduled ones.

Postcards Home

What travellers wrote back

"Our guide rerouted an entire afternoon so we could catch the tea pickers heading home — the kind of detail no itinerary template gives you."

Marta & Ollie, United Kingdom

"Told them we didn't want a single beach day. Got a trip that was all temples, tea and jungle — exactly the itinerary I'd have spent weeks building myself."

Daniel K., Singapore

"Two leopard sightings, a family-run guesthouse we still talk about, and not one moment that felt rushed. Already planning the next one."
